Subscribers Answer My Questions
And The Results Are In
Hello. In the aftermath of Charlie' Kirk’s assassination, I wrote this post.
In it, I asked some questions to those that mourn his passing.
Two readers of this blog, who don’t know each other and have never met (heck, one lives here in SF’s East Bay, and the other in Santa Monica) responded with sincere and thoughtful answers to my questions.
So thank you Thomas Buitoni and Lauren A. Fox. I’ve known Thomas since 1992, and Lauren even longer, since 1989.
Preview: I guess we’re all West Coast Liberal Elites, because wow, do the 3 of us agree.
Portico Darwin: Do you agree power should devolve from the people and the ballot box to something else, and is it better to work to unite the country, or to divide it?
Thomas Buitoni: Not sure I understand the question, but it's critical to unite.
I think the current Electoral College system does not properly represent the will of the people and needs to be scrapped in favor of something decentralized and intelligent.
Lauren A. Fox: No, we the people are the government, and it is our responsibility to vote. Of course we have to find a way to unite as a people, otherwise America's little experiment of democracy is over, and we are just another plutocracy controlled by the uber-rich, governed by religion and policed by the state.
PD: Do you agree that the Constitution calls for the separation of church and state, and that there is not a national religion?
TB: Freedom of Religion is critical and therefore so is its separation from State. That, and the fucking Evangelical movement literally CAUSED all the division centered around religion. It needs to die (not be assassinated).
LF: Yes, there should always be separation of church and state as well as (the separation of) government and business. By separating the government from the church (or any religion) you give all citizens equal freedom to worship, not worship and to live their life free of persecution and violence.
PD: Was there slavery in the United States, and is the history of it an important part of one’s education as an American citizen?
TB: Umm, duh? (Our) country was built on slavery, starting with Indentured Servitude of immigrants.
LF: Hell, yes there was slavery in this country. We built America's economy on the backs of people we didn't even consider human or God-like. Shame on us Christians.
PD: Is there a place in America for people that don’t wish to have children? What about atheists, Muslims, and Buddhists?
TB: Absolutely not, starting with you. KIDDING. Parenthood is a choice . . . and a big responsibility. The idea of America is there's a place for everyone.
Anyone who thinks otherwise is just wrong? And anyone who thinks deporting every single fucking undocumented immigrant would benefit them in ANY WAY, other than just fueling their hate and division, is just an idiot. Educate them or ignore them.
LF: Ugh. Yes, I hope so because I made a choice to not have kids. I did not have to bear a child to prove that I am a woman. My behavior speaks for itself.
PD: Was the 2020 election stolen?
TB: Get the fuck out of here. Of course not, and Trump’s call to Atlanta was ridiculous.
LF: Hell no. If that were true it is also true that our Dear Leader never lost a golf game, and he only weighs 210 pounds.
Stop the violence, stop the lies and stop the racist bullshit claiming you are ordained from God.
Isn't that what terrorists think?
Jesus taught us not to be cruel or judge or we would be judged accordingly.
I could not have said any of that better myself. Thank you again, Thomas and Lauren.
