TODAY'S RAMBLINGS
1 Minute Read
Happy Friday before Christmas. In the spirit of the frivolity surrounding this time of year, I’ll participate by sharing the blockbuster story of my quasi-viral post on Reddit.
Yes, it’s true. I made what I thought was an innocuous post on an innocuous subject on an innocuous Subreddit. And I didn’t even write it - it was a screenshot of a blurb that appeared at Ars Technica.
The topic is how Blu-ray disc players won’t be made much longer. A reminder that Blu-Ray discs succeeded DVDs, which succeeded VHS tapes, and were the first high-definition video media. And apparently, the last.
It blew up on Reddit. Here’s the post, and its statistics, as of yesterday.
Almost a half million views and nearly a thousand (!) comments.
Who knew? So less Dear Leader and more consumer electronics and technology?
Perhaps that’s why Maybe It Was Destiny was so popular? Although a typical chapter got slightly fewer views than 492,000. Like 491,907 fewer.
Do I care? Absolutely not.
But I’ve tried much harder here at Substack than at Reddit to build an audience. That demonstrates how the algorithms used by the platforms we visit skew what you see online. Because 500,000 people saw something I put out there, FFS.
Have a great weekend. I know I will.
FROM THE UNWASHED MASSES
Anonymous (who by now should understand calling her “Anonymous” is not a lot different than using her fake name here) went Rooseveltian, but then revealed she has concerns, too. This was in response to my My Fears About Dear Leader post.
Other than what is there to fear?
There are many reasons to be fearful. I think staying positive will be hard work.
Anonymous is not wrong.
Thank you for reading this newsletter.

Referencing another dying medium, Sunday Papers, and also featuring the über-Manhattan (and ultimate) version of Steppin’ Out, here is something Diamond Certified for this festive weekend.
