TODAY'S RAMBLINGS
2 Minute Read + A Whole Lot Of Listening
Hello Hump Day and let’s get right into it.
“Portico, you seem reasonably well-informed. Won’t you be so kind as to share a list of the podcasts to which you currently listen?”
Said absolutely nobody, ever. Not once. Yet that didn’t stop me before, and it won’t now.
Because if you’re like me, you don’t enjoy hearing or seeing Dear Leader, but do wish to stay aware, and sane, too. And maybe with some fun mixed in. Here’s how I do it.
I do get that it’s a lot of podcasts. But many only come out once per week, and I also walk 5 miles most days. And I delete shows on topics I don’t care about.
But it is these and The Economist that largely form my worldview. I will let you decide if that’s a feature or a bug.
Either way, I hope you’ll give one a try if it is new to you.
And I’d love to hear about your own favorites.
Current Events/Business
Yes, I listen to 3 different British podcasts in this category, two by the same guys. And 4 if you count the last one. They’re that good.
The Ezra Klein Show
Freakonomics
Leading (Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart)
Pivot (Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway)
The News Agents
The Rest is Politics (Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart)
The Rest is Politics: US
Intellectual
With some current events often mixed in, but you never know what you might learn from these. All present different perspectives and certainly aren’t orgies of progressive confirmation bias.
The Gray Area with Sean Illing
Grey Matter with Michael Krasny
Making Sense with Sam Harris
Plain English with Derek Thompson
Hobbies/Sports
Bloomberg Hot Pursuit
A great show, although I don’t care for their anti-EV bias.
The Dan Patrick Show
The original Bro and Bro-fest. It’s still great.
Pablo Torre Finds Out
Silly at times, but he often transcends his stoner sports schtick with quality info.
Entertainment
These are both hit-or-miss. But when they’re good, they’re Killer.
Club Random with Bill Maher
Smartless
Self-Help
Yeah, like I need any. But just in case someone out there does . . .
FROM THE UNWASHED MASSES
Thank you for reading this newsletter.
KLUF
Of course, I hear Voices. Often, in fact. Here are their 50 best songs.
Hey Portico, good to see you still subscribe to the ‘limey lips’ I recommended. I wrote to them recommending your output, did you hear from them at all, did they subscribe? Their loss if not.
